Kenora Roller Derby League

About the Kenora Roller Derby League

Kenora Roller Derby (KRDL) is a not-for-profit community sporting organization, established in Canada in April 2012 by roller derby enthusiasts. We’re a well-established women’s flat track roller derby league focused on facilitating the development of athletic ability, sports-woman ship, and goodwill among league members.

Roller derby is a fast-paced, high-energy contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating counter-clockwise around a track. Game play consists of a series of short match-ups (jams) in which both teams designate a jammer. The jammer scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to hinder the opposing jammer while assisting their own jammer, in effect, playing both offense and defense simultaneously.

Here at Kenora Roller Derby league, we promote teamwork and a healthy, positive image of women in sport. Fostering a tight-knit and supportive network of members, we also supply an outlet for their boundless creativity. We honor diversity and encourage self-expression and are committed to building a network of friendship and support among skaters.

At Kenora Roller Derby, we pride ourselves on our competitiveness and are always seeking continuous improvement in our sport. All league members will be unique, but will all share common goals: to have fun, to push our physical limits, and to challenge the way people view women. The one thing that connects us is roller derby and our passion for the sport and love for our league. We love roller derby and want to bring that same enjoyment, inspiration, and fun to our family, friends and the greater Kenora city.

We do everything needed to keep the league running by planning and hosting events, fundraisers, seeking sponsorship and much more.  Our events are family friendly and accessible to people from all walks of life. All funds raised are used to cover the costs of renting the venue, putting on bouts, attending out of town bouts, creating all our promotional materials and merchandise, public relations, helping with liability insurance, and any other expenses that may arise.

Statement of Inclusion

We are an inclusive league, welcoming people from all walks of life. We welcome people of all ability levels from beginners to advanced skaters and offer a friendly coaching environment.
